On July 24, at the Charles H. Wright Museum, crowds gathered to catch a sneak peek ofDetroit, a film that revolves around the infamous Algiers Motel incident, in which 3 African American men were killed amidst the chaos of Detroit’s 1967 rebellion.
Audience members got to hear from the cast and Academy Award winning director, Kathryn Bigelow. Joining Bigelow onstage were cast members John Boyega, Laz Alonso, and Tyler James Williams, along with John Conyers III, and one of the real-life survivors of the Algiers Motel incident, Julie Delaney. Though John Boyega’s surprise appearance midway through the panel brought applause, the introduction of Delaney brought forth gasps from the audience.
One Detroit’s Will Glover, Zosette Guir, and Sam Nork asked audience members about their reactions to the discussion and film preview. Check out their responses in the video below:
